DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 4, 2003 - UPS today announced plans to showcase The UPS Store™ on the #88 UPS Ford Taurus for the upcoming Georgia 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on October 26. The new paint scheme was unveiled today at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The UPS Store car takes on a decidedly different flare from the normal paint scheme run by the #88 UPS Racing Team. UPS yellow is the predominant color on the car, and The UPS Store™ logo is featured on the hood, which is normally adorned with the new UPS shield logo that was introduced this past March.
"Highlighting The UPS Store brand on the #88 UPS Ford Taurus, and the UPS promotions we’re developing, exemplify some of the unique ways we can extend the power of the UPS brand," said Rocky Romanella, vice president of UPS Retail Services. "It’s an especially creative way to spark awareness of UPS services at convenient retail locations among race fans, as well as other consumers, throughout the U.S."
NASCAR enthusiasts and collectors can also look forward to the release of a unique 1:43 scale die-cast car that will commemorate the #88 The UPS Store race car run at Atlanta Motor Speedway in October. The 1:43 scale car, which has not yet been released, will be made available later this fall exclusively through participating locations of The UPS Store. Beginning in September, race fans can also register to win a trip to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the October race as part of a special consumer promotion.
"Special paint schemes are as fun for drivers and teams as they are for the fans," said Dale Jarrett, driver of the #88 UPS Ford. "I think this car is especially dynamic, not only because it looks great, but also because it showcases The UPS Store brand across the U.S."
Visitors to The UPS Store locations will discover a wide range of products and services, including UPS shipping at lower prices direct from UPS, full-service packaging, mailbox and postal services, black-and-white and color copying, document finishing, office and packaging supplies, and other business services.
UPS acquired Mail Boxes, Etc., Inc. in 2001, and in April 2003, more than 3,000 Mail Boxes Etc. franchisees across the U.S. opted to convert their locations to The UPS Store brand. To find The UPS Store locations and other information, log on to www.theupsstore.com.
UPS has been the official express delivery company of NASCAR since 2000. This is also UPS’s third year as primary sponsor of the #88 UPS Ford Taurus driven by Dale Jarrett for Robert Yates Racing. Building on the sport's growing popularity and fan loyalty, UPS has been recognized for a strong marketing platform that links its services to the speed, precision and reliability of NASCAR racing. UPS continues to build new business opportunity directly within the racing community, related automotive and supplier industries and with new revenues through licensed product merchandising, now available at The UPS Store locations.
